Email

The brief arrives Monday morning. Email is on every plan, and on the trial.

Who gets it

By default, you — at the address you signed in with. Nothing to configure.

A workspace has one person in it today, so that is the whole default. There is no way to invite a colleague yet, which makes the recipient list below the only way a brief reaches anyone else.

Sending it to other people

Settings → Delivery, on the web. Enter addresses separated by commas.

Those addresses receive the brief and nothing else. They get no account, cannot open the feed, cannot see your competitors, and nothing about the workspace is exposed beyond what is written in that week's brief. It is the right way to get a brief to a founder who does not want another login, a board member, or the rest of a team.

The mobile app can turn email delivery on and off but cannot edit the list; it sends you to the web for that. Editing a comma-separated list of addresses on a phone is not something anyone wants to do twice.

The recipient list replaces you

This is the one thing on this page to remember.

The list is not people in addition to you. It is the complete set of addresses the brief goes to. Once you save a list, it is the only place the brief goes — including not to you, if your own address is not on it.

So if you want your boss to start receiving briefs, put both addresses in:

you@acme.com, boss@acme.com

Entering only boss@acme.com sends it to your boss and stops sending it to you. The Settings screen says so above the field, but it is worth repeating here, because the symptom a week later — the brief stopped arriving — looks exactly like a delivery failure and sends people looking in the wrong place.

Clearing the list restores the default and the brief comes back to you alone.

Turning it off

The toggle in Settings stops email without losing the recipient list, so turning it back on later does not mean retyping anything.

Turning email off does not stop briefs being generated. They still appear in the app, still go to Slack if that is on, and are still there in the archive.

If it does not arrive

Check, in this order:

  1. Was there a brief at all? No signals means no brief, and no email. Open the Briefs screen — if the week is not there, nothing was sent to anyone.
  2. Are you on the recipient list? See above. This is the most common answer, and the most surprising one.
  3. Is the toggle on? Settings → Delivery.
  4. Spam. A first brief from a new sender lands there more often than it should, and marking one as not-spam fixes every one after it.
